Auckland Clinical Study
Eczema Itch: Non-Steroid Potential Medication

Eczema itch keeping you awake? If your current eczema meds aren’t enough, consider joining a clinical trial to test the suitability and effectiveness of a potential new, non-steroid topical medication.
​
This non-steroid option is not yet available at the pharmacy. It is hoped to potentially offer:
​
· Less itching, to help sleep and feel better
· Rapid itch relief
· A non-steroid option, with no steroid-type effects expected
​
Participants may get early access to the potential medication, receive study-related medical care at no cost, and compensation (up to $2350 NZD before tax) for completing participation. New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority (MEDSAFE) and the Health and Disability Ethics Committee (HDEC) have given their approval for this study to run in New Zealand.

You might be eligible if all of the following apply to you:
​
· Aged 18 to 69 years (inclusive) 
· Diagnosed at least 6 months ago with Atopic Dermatitis (chronic eczema)
· Have persistent itching
· Aside from Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema), are in reasonably good health
· Live in Auckland or the wider Auckland region
· Other study criteria may apply

Atopic Dermatitis Study
Help us find a new approach to treat atopic dermatitis (eczema)
​
Consider taking part in a clinical study of an investigational drug for atopic dermatitis (AD)
In atopic dermatitis inflammation (swelling) is triggered when an overactive immune (body’s defence) system damages skin-barrier tissue. Laboratory studies have shown that this investigational drug (study drug) could possibly decrease inflammation and help with tissue repair in AD.
This study is to see if the investigational medication is safe and can improve AD and make you feel better.
You may be able to take part in this study if you:
· Are aged between 18 – 70 years of age
· Have moderate to severe atopic dermatitis for at least 1 year
​
If you take part, you will receive either the investigational drug or placebo - a placebo is a solution without any active ingredients that looks the same as the investigational drug.
​
You will receive 4 doses of study drug or placebo which will be administered every 4 weeks as a subcutaneous (under the skin) injection over 12 weeks. The study will last for 8-9 months and will include up to 15 visits to the clinic after the screening period.
​
Participants are reimbursed for their time and travel expenses.
