There’s something incredibly comforting about a warm chocolate dessert, and this Gluten-Free Self-Saucing Chocolate Pudding is a timeless favourite. As it bakes, a rich chocolate sauce forms underneath a soft, fluffy sponge, making every spoonful indulgent and satisfying.

This recipe uses everyday ingredients and gluten-free self-raising flour, making it a great option for families managing dietary needs without sacrificing flavour. Baked in individual ramekins, it’s perfect for sharing or enjoying as a special treat at home.

Ingredients

For the pudding

  • 25 g butter, melted

  • 2 tbsp Dutch cocoa powder

  • ¼ cup caster sugar

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 cup gluten-free self-raising flour

For the sauce

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp Dutch cocoa powder

  • 1 ¼ cups boiling water


Method

  • Preheat oven to 180°C and lightly grease six ¾-cup oven-safe ramekins.

  • Combine melted butter, cocoa powder, caster sugar and milk in a bowl.

  • Sift in the gluten-free self-raising flour and mix gently until just combined.

  • Divide the batter evenly between the ramekins.

  • Mix brown sugar and cocoa powder and sprinkle over the batter.

  • Carefully pour the boiling water over the top without stirring.

  • Bake for 30 minutes, until the sponge is set.

  • Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream or a dairy-free alternative.
